Customs Procedure
Bringing jewelry into Kuwait for the exhibition follows a clear structure, and it is important to prepare the required documents before travel. The information below outlines the full process for hand-carried jewelry, customs inspection, insurance, duties on sold items and departure procedures.
These steps are managed by the official customs and security teams assigned to the exhibition. Our role, as the Thhaba Designers Pavilion, is to guide you, support you and ensure you are prepared.
Arriving to Kuwait
All jewelry must be declared as temporary export when departing your country.
Please coordinate with your handling agent to ensure your documents are correctly prepared so you can clear your sold items at the exhibition and re-enter your country smoothly with the remaining pieces.
If your Chamber of Commerce or handling agent requires recipient details on your documents, the standard format used in previous editions is:
Recipient
Kuwait International Fair (K.S.C.)
For the International Gold & Jewelry Exhibition
Mishref, Kuwait
Hall 6 - Booth Number 73
If any supporting documents are needed to validate participation, we will share them with you privately upon request.
Hand-Carried Jewelry
If you are hand-carrying your jewelry, please take note of the following requirements, which are consistent across previous editions:
Arrival Terminals
Exhibitors carrying jewelry must arrive through one of the following terminals:
• Terminal 1 (Main Airport)
• Terminal 4 (Kuwait Airways Terminal)
These are the only terminals where official exhibition representatives are stationed to assist exhibitors arriving with jewelry.
Arrival Window
All hand-carried jewelry must arrive within the designated arrival window announced for this edition.
ARRIVAL DATES WITH HAND-CARRY JEWELRY:
ONLY 16 – 17 December 2025
Outside this window, no customs support will be available, and exhibitors will need to adjust travel accordingly.
Same Flight Requirement
Each participating brand is allowed to transport its hand-carried jewelry on one flight only.
If more than one representative is traveling with the jewelry, all must arrive on the same flight at the same time.
This rule is enforced by customs and cannot be modified.
Airport Arrival Process
Upon landing, exhibitors carrying gold and precious items will be assisted by:
• Hala Services (National Aviation Services)
• Maraheb (Kuwait Airways Staff)
You will be escorted to the Al-Mulla Security Lounge, where the following process takes place:
-
Your sealed jewelry bags are received by the Al-Mulla security team.
-
Bags remain sealed until the morning of the first day of the exhibition.
-
On opening day, the bags are opened using a two-key lock system in your presence.
-
Customs officers will then match the jewelry pieces with your documents.
Customs do not check or open the bags at the airport. They only confirm the sealed condition.
Customs Check at the Exhibition
On the first morning of the event, customs officers will open your bags and verify your items against your documents.
Please ensure the following are complete and accurate:
• Invoice
• Packing list
• Certificate of origin
• Clear photos of each item (strongly recommended)
Every piece must be listed in your documents.
Any item not listed or mismatched will be held until the end of the exhibition and cannot be displayed or sold.
Insurance (Upon Arrival)
Every exhibitor must sign a basic insurance form provided by Al-Mulla Security Company.
This form is submitted directly to Al-Mulla at the airport.
Details:
• You may fill the form in advance once shared
• One form is required per bag
• Any number of bags is allowed
• Standard coverage per bag: 100,000 Kuwaiti Dinars
(Bag size reference: height 70 cm × depth 30 cm × width 40 cm)
This form is not submitted to KIF.
Al-Mulla collects it directly.
Custom Duties on Sold Jewelry
Kuwaiti law requires that any gold jewelry sold or displayed must carry the official Kuwait Ministry of Commerce hallmark.
Because pieces arriving from outside Kuwait are not stamped, the process is as follows:
-
After each sale, the item is taken to the Ministry of Commerce office inside the exhibition hall.
-
The ministry staff will hallmark the piece.
-
Customs duties are collected at that time.
Duties Structure
• 5% of the sale value (based on your invoice)
• Bank processing fee per transaction (fixed by the bank handling payments at the exhibition)
Unsold items are not subject to any duties.
The thhaba team will take care of the hallmarking process and coordination on your behalf.
Daily Jewelry Inventory Report
Every exhibitor is required to complete the official daily inventory report to document:
• Remaining pieces
• Sold items
Departure from Kuwait (Hand-Carried Jewelry)
Upon departure, all unsold jewelry must be matched again with your original documents. This is done at the exhibition hall with the customs officers.
DEPARTURE DATES WITH HAND-CARRY JEWELRY:
➢ ONLY 24 – 25 December 2025
You will be required to submit your departure flight details during the final check.
Exhibitors carrying gold items typically depart one to two days after the exhibition closes to align with customs availability.
Only unsold goods are taken back to your country.
Sold goods remain in Kuwait after the hallmarking and duty process.
