Caring for your Jewelry:

It is advisable to regularly check jewelry for damage or wear. If you have any concerns about your jewelry condition, we will be more than happy in helping you keep yours looking as good as the day it was bought.

Here are a few tips on some of the things you can do to keep it in great shape:

  • Take your jewelry off if you're involved in any activity which could scratch, knock or damage it, especially if you are going to the gym.
  • It is highly recommended to take your jewelry off when you go to bed.
  • Keep it well away from chemicals, especially chlorine when swimming in a pool. If it does come into contact with chemicals, rinse it in water immediately.
  • Bathe and apply any lotions, oud or perfumes before you put your jewelry on. Organic gemstones like pearls and opals are particularly vulnerable to acids, as they are highly porous.
  • Store your jewelry pieces separately, ideally in a soft-lined box or case, so that they don't tangle, rub or scratch one another. Pearls in particular should be kept separately as they are easily scratched by hard gemstones.
  • Make sure chains and necklaces are fastened when storing to avoid tangling.
  • Remove jewelry while cooking, cleaning and washing up.
  • When storing jewelry, please keep it away from sunlight, excessive heat or damp conditions.

Handle your diamond jewelry carefully and store it away from other pieces of jewelry to avoid scratching the other pieces, including other diamond jewelry. Keeping the diamond in individual small plastic bags or a fabric-lined case will help reduce damage, wear and a build-up of dirt.

These simple steps can help preserve your treasured pieces for years to come.

If you are in doubt about the condition of your favorite pieces of jewlery, especially the ones you wear regularly, here are a few things to look out for:

  • Worn, damaged, or missing prongs can put your stones at risk of falling out.
  • Loose stones within their settings.
  • Weak or faulty catches and clasps, or rough links on chains and bracelets.
  • Cracks or fractures in metal components.
  • Pearls that are loose on their string or when the thread shows signs of fraying.
  • Excessive movement in jointed hinges.
  • The plating wearing off white gold.
  • Dive watches should be pressure tested annually to maintain water resistance.
  • Lastly, if a ring feels too tight or too loose, it can usually be resized for a better fit.

Cleaning your Jewelry:

To keep your jewelry clean and brilliant, we recommend using a jewelry polishing and cleaning cloth. This cloth is made of special fibers that remove any built up dirt, oils and fingerprints and will polish your jewelry and gemstones for a brilliant finish.

You can purchase a jewelry cleaning and polishing cloth from our online store.

Cleaning Gold Jewelry:

Gold jewelry can quickly lose its shine due to fingerprints and the daily buildup of dirt. Using a jewelry cleaner specifically designed for gold is a safe option, but always ensure it’s suitable for both the metal and any stones in the piece. If you’re unsure, follow these steps:

  • Add a few drops of mild dishwashing liquid to a bowl of lukewarm water. Avoid hot or ice-cold water, as sudden temperature changes can damage the jewelry.
  • Soak the piece for about 10 minutes to loosen any dirt.
  • Gently brush with a soft or extra-soft toothbrush, focusing on hard-to-reach areas and being careful around delicate gemstone settings.
  • Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove any soap residue and dirt.
  • Dry gently with a lint-free cloth, or place the piece on a cloth to air dry.

Gold is a soft metal prone to scratching, so be gentle throughout the cleaning and drying process to avoid any damage to the surface of your jewelry.

Cleaning Diamond & Color Gemstones Jewelry:

  • Add a few drops of mild dishwashing liquid to a bowl of lukewarm water.
  • Soak the piece for about 10 minutes to loosen any dirt.
  • Gently brush with a soft or extra-soft toothbrush being careful around delicate diamond settings.
  • Rinse thoroughly with clean water to remove any soap residue and dirt.
  • Dry gently with a lint-free cloth, or place the piece on a cloth to air dry.
  • Avoid using bleach or harsh abrasives, as these can damage the precious metal of the setting.

Oil from fingers, and dust, can easily build up on a diamond's surface, diminishing its brilliance and sparkle. Regular cleaning is essential to maintain its shine and ensure it continues to dazzle.

Many coloured gemstones have been heat or oil treated to enhance their appearance. These treatments can interact with some cleaning products and damage the jewelry.

Inclusions within gemstones can weaken their structure if aggressively cleaned. Gemstones, such as emeralds that have been oiled to improve colour, can be negatively affected by mechanical cleaning such as steam and ultrasonic cleaning.

Cleaning Pearl and Opal Jewelry:

  • Dampen a soft cloth with warm water and gently rub each stone individually. Do not pull the stones through the cloth to dry them quickly, as this can stretch or damage the string. Please avoid submerging these delicate gemstones in water.
  • For stubborn dirt, use an extra-soft toothbrush to gently remove dirt, and be very gentle not to use excessive pressure.
  • Dry the gemstones with a lint-free cloth. Excess moisture can accumulate in drill holes or near knots, leading to discoloration. A strong blow of air or dabbing with a cloth can help remove moisture. Do not use a hairdryer, as heat can damage these delicate stones.
  • Never use steam, hot water, or ultrasonic cleaners, as these can irreversibly harm organic gems.

Organic gems like pearls and opals require specialized care. Most organic gems are much softer than mineral gemstones, making them more prone to scratches and damage if not handled correctly. Their chemical makeup also makes them vulnerable to acids and chemicals commonly found in cleaning products.
