In December of 2019, I was participating in Diriyah Season in Riyadh and it happened to be in the same week that the Arab Net was taking place. I was invited to attend the talks and seminars and spent my morining at the arab Net venue before I headed to Al Bujairi Park where I was exhibiting my jewelry. 

Zid App and their team, including Mazen and Nawaf Al Derrab where speaking alost every day about their experience in E-Commerce and about the services their company provides for business owners in the GCC. BRICK AND MORTAR VS. E-COMMERCE?

They both work together and it is a recommended practice to have both, each providing a different experience for your customers but still maintain the identity and culture of your company. Both also would aid the growth of one another, the secret is making that magical combination work for their benefit, and for that there are consultants and the business plan also has a great influence.

 

HOW DO YOU MEASURE THE EFFICIENCY OF YOURE-COMMERCE PLATFORM?

How many of your visitors are converted into successful sales transactions. This of course depends on how their user experience and shopping experience influenced that conversion and made it easier for the customer to make their purchase.

 

WHAT MADE E-COMMERCE GROW SO FAST IN THE GCC IN THE PAST FEW YEARS?

The growth we are experiencing in the GCC within the past few years has been mostly due to two major factors:

First, electronic payment gateways and third party payment providers that allowed customers to use their debit cards and not be restricted with credit cards. In Saudi Arabia, Apple Pay is also a major factor.

Second, is the increase in the number of courier and shipping companies in the region. The more shipping options you provide you customers, the more likely they are to be convinced in making a purchase. Why? You would be able to provide more flexible and more efficient delivery methods and charges.

And you would provide customers with more companies to choose from if they have had a bad, or good, experience or have a preference to a specific company.

 

OBSERVATIONS OF E-COMMERCE DURING COVID-19

1. The growth of E-Commerce is still going strong and steady.

2. The projections are similar compared to Ramadan 2019.

3. People staying at home is actually helping in making the E-Commerce experience for customers more convenient and appealing.

4. People are looking for ways to cheer themselves up, and online shopping is providing that release.

5. Customers that where not familiar with E-Commerce or did not find it convenient or appealing are now giving it a try and experiencing it’s benefits.

 

CONSIDERATIONS FOR DEVELOPING YOUR OWN E-COMMERCE PLATFORM AFTER COVID-19

1. Make sure your product pictures are of good quality, they are the visual representation the customer has to evaluate and decide on the purchase, they need to be as close to reality as possible.

2. Make sure your product descriptions are clear, to the point and honest.

3. When hiring a copywriter to create you online content, make sure they have enough knowledge with copywriting to enhance the SEO.

4. Provide your customers with as many shipping options as possible as the customer’s behavior is critical especially when it comes to the delivery options.

5. Remember, customers will hold you accountable if their delivery experience is not to their satisfaction, the shipping companies do not take the blame.
